I know I've posted about Karate here and there, but haven't officially posted about it. And because this is our family scrapbook... Mason started Karate on Wednesday, July 27th after years of begging us to do so. He now has 9 classes under his belt and knows numerous kicks and punches. He also knows his first Kata (Ki Cho) which means Foundation. He has done so well and puts so much effort into each class. Nathan and I have enjoyed watching him.
If you ask him he will more than likely tell you that he doesn't like it. I am not sure why he does this because he lives, eats and breathes karate now. He can't even walk from one side of the room to the other without doing kicks or punches. Also, on days that he doesn't have karate he is begging us to go. He's even told us that he wants to keep going to the karate school after he's a black belt and that he wants to teach there. And just last week he had a girl instructor and for some reason he didn't want to leave when class was over. ;)
I love that his school puts an emphasis on teaching manners as well as self-confidence. What kid couldn't use a little more of each? Each instructor he's had has been so great with kids. They really know how to work with them and to keep them interested. Even the owner of the school teaches class. He's my favorite because the kids really listen and pay attention to him.
I can't wait to see all that he learns from karate!
He's so cute in his karate uniform in all those poses! I bet Monkey Boy would enjoy karate, too! :)
ReplyDeleteAdorable! So glad he found an activity that he loves!
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome that he loves karate (even though he says he doesn't haha). I've notice that many places that teach 'fighting' teach manners and respect too. I think that is so important.
ReplyDeleteWe've talked about putting Connor in karate when he is 4.
ReplyDeleteFrom the looks of it, it would be a blast. Mason looks so grown up in these photos.
So funny that he says he doesn't like it when he clearly does. Kids. Love that he is SO into it that and makes such an effort each class. That is just so fun to watch!!!
ReplyDeleteOh I just love how into it he is! His confidence exudes from the photos alone!
ReplyDeleteThe next karate kid!! I think it's just a kid thing to say they don't like something when you know they do. Stinkers! Glad he loves it so much. I've thought about it for Cam.
ReplyDeleteThat is just so cute. Zachary did karate for a few weeks but he did not like it!
ReplyDeleteLove it! So stinkin' sweet. Great that he found an activity he loves.
ReplyDeleteHe looks so cute in his ghee!! I did judo when I was little (4 or 5) and remember feeling so invincible ;)
ReplyDeleteManners, respect, self confidence. I LOVE that karate teaches all of these things and more. He is so cute in his outfit too :)!
ReplyDeleteI truly know nothing about karate but how wonderful for him! And it sounds like his instructors are spot on!
ReplyDeleteThat is so fun! Henry did a class like this when he was 4 and I really loved it. Time just got away from us to sign him up again. We may have to. Henry had very similar feelings to it that Mason does.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the idea of it teaching self confidence! A friend of ours older brother (same age as Mason) just started for the same reasons. Will definitely have to look into it when Noah's a little older!
ReplyDeleteBeing a Karate Kid seems to suit him well! So funny he tells people he doesn't like it! Kids are weird beings. ;)
ReplyDeleteHa! SO funny Mason says he doesn't like karate when it's pretty clear he's a fan.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see him grow with this!!
Kids are so funny! I ask Mason something and his automatic response is "NO!" and then he processes it and is like wait, I do like that "YES!" so it's funny that your Mason says he doesn't like karate even though he's clearly obsessed.
ReplyDeleteI love this pictures of him!! He seems SO happy and so proud. Can't wait to hear how he does as time goes on!
