I don't know about you, but I have seen these earrings popping up at boutiques everywhere! And I see ads for them on Facebook almost every single day. I started brainstorming and thought I could probably make these with my Cricut. So, I googled and found several tutorials on how to do this. And everything I needed I could get at Hobby Lobby! Today I wanted to share 10 easy steps to creating your own DIY Faux Leather earrings using a Cricut.
- Cricut Explore Air
- Computer
- Cutting Mat (I used a strong grip mat)
- Faux Leather Ribbon (I found this in the ribbon section rather than in the Cricut or leather section at our Hobby Lobby)
- Fish hook earrings
- Needle-nose pliers
- Scissors
- Push pin or a pinpoint hole punch
t w o | Once I had the height and width of the earring adjusted to my liking, I just duplicated (right click and choose duplicate) my shape so that I had a pair. Duplicate for however many pairs you want to cut out at once.
t h r e e | Click on "Make It" in design space.
f o u r | Place your faux leather ribbon face down on the cutting mat.
f i v e | Set the dial on your Cricut machine to "custom".
s i x | In design space under 'set material' chose the leather type that best fits your material. I chose shimmer leather 1mm for this pair because I was using a glittery faux leather.
s e v e n | Load your mat and push "C" on the Cricut to begin the cutting.
e i g h t | Unload mat, remove your shapes from the cutting mat.
n i n e | Poke a small hole near the top of the earrings. I laid the pair on top of one another and used a thumb tack to place a hole through both. Doing it this way ensures the holes are in the same spot and one earring doesn't hang lower than the other.
t e n | Using a pair of needle-nose pliers, open the loop on the fish hook earring and attach it to the leather cutout shape, then close the loop with the pliers.
And that's it! So, so easy!
