Happy Wednesday! It's been quite a week already and thus the reason I am just now getting to share about our weekend. Work has been absolutely insane this week. I told Nate that it feels like it's rapid-fire email week. As soon as I finish one, seven more come in. Monday evening we had Mason's first hockey practice with his team he will be on for league. More on that later! But for now, here is a look at our weekend.
{Weekend Wrap-up // Corporal Pinning, Hockey, Ft Worth, Reset Day, Coop & Eggs}
{Farmfresh Eggs}
Back in February, I started over with a whole new flock of chickens. My hens are all getting to the "laying" age, so I have been on egg watch like a crazy chicken lady. Although, I haven't been too hopeful due to the heat in Texas right now. You can imagine my surprise this weekend when I found THREE eggs in my chicken coop!
{More Chicken Coop Work}
We spent some of the weekend finishing up the work on the chicken coop. We put up a new (heavy-duty) aviary net to help keep predators out of the coop and run. This net is legit and so much better than the previous one we had up!
{Chicken Coop Update}
Our chicken coop was in need of a little updating...so we spent this past weekend doing just that! Some of the wood was flaking off and we needed to do some reinforcements around the edges now that I have chicks residing there! We had some tin lying around not being used so Nate had the idea to use that instead of new wood. I have to say, I love the way it came out. Gives it that rustic flare that I love so much.
{The Chicks have moved}
Yesterday was an exciting day for the chicks!! They have moved to their new home. I'm sure they are so excited to have all the space in the coop! They were starting to run out of space in their brooder. It's funny how big they look in the brooder and then how small they look in the coop.
{Chicken Coop Update // Easter & Spring // 2022}
The last time I shared my coop it was decorated for St Patrick's Day. Quickly after decorating for that holiday, I learned that I was not a big fan of the green on my coop! But, I stuck it out until after St. Patty's Day. And then I had to stick it out a bit longer due to the weather! lol. I was finally able to get in and redecorate for Spring & Easter. I am loving these colors so much better! So, here is my chicken coop in all it's Easter & Spring glory and boasting that new sign I made...
{Weekend Wrapup // March 2022}
Getting back to the basics of blogging around here (or trying to, at least). I used to do these weekend-wrapups all the time and I loved them. It's so much fun to look back at a weekend in our lives at a certain time/season in our lives! It's crazy how weekends change over the years. This weekend was a good mix of busy and being at home. Those are the best kinds!!
{NEW SIGN FOR THE CHICKEN COOP // 2022}
When we first reno'd our chicken coop, I made a round wood sign to hang on the top of the coop. I loved it and it was pretty adorable. I made the flowers on the sign to match those in the flower boxes. However, at the time I didn't think about changing out the flowers in the boxes with the seasons! So then the flowers on the sign never matched those in the boxes and that bothered me. lol. Anyhow, over time the sign started to weather and it was time for a new one. So, I whipped this one up...
{St Patrick's Day Chicken Coop // 2022}
A few weeks ago I shared my chicken coop all decorated for Valentine's Day. Well, I just updated it for the next holiday...St Patrick's Day!!
{Valentine's Day Chicken Coop // Feb 2022}
One of my favorite things about my coop is being able to change out the decor for each holiday! I have two window flower boxes that I switch up the flowers in and I usually hang a decorative sign on the door. I recently decorated for Valentine's Day and I am loving the pops of pink and red!
{My Merry Little Chicken Coop // 2021}
I knew at the beginning of the season that I wanted to add a little Christmas cheer to my chicken coop! So, I bought some poinsettias and whipped up a sweet little Christmas wreath! It made my heart so happy to see a little Christmas out at my chicken coop! It really is the little things...
{All things Chickens // an update // chicken eggs & a coop update}
Who in the world ever thought I would be a crazy chicken mama? But here I am...and I am loving it! They are so much fun to watch and learn. I am enjoying getting to know each one a little better.
{Chicken Run}
Now that our chickens have gotten acclimated to their new home/coop, we can let them free range in their run. Just one more step before they're free to roam the full 2 acres. Nathan and I ordered a safety net to put over our chicken run to keep out predators, so that makes me feel better! There's only a small part of the coop area that is not covered and that's so that we can open and close the coop door! Our chickens are loving this new freedom and we are enjoying watching them!
{We moved some of the chickens to the coop!!}
April 13th was a big day here at Hall Farms! We moved our biggest babes out to the coop. They love the new space to run around and the little littles love having more space in the brooder! It will be a couple more weeks before our 2nd round is ready for the coop. I can't wait to have them all out there!
{Chicken Coop // Update}
A few weeks ago, I shared our Chicken Coop Reno. We've added a few things to the coop since then. I added a solar lantern on the coop itself, some solar lights around the bottom, and some cute little fencing. I am loving the way this coop has come together.
{Our first set of baby chicks // March 2021}
I mentioned in the previous post that after our spring break celebrations we went and picked up something exciting! What was that exciting thing I'm talking about? Our first set of baby chicks!!! (well, first set this go-'round! - we had chickens about 12 years ago) We went to Atwood's and Mason and I picked out 10 sweet little babies to bring home with us!!
{Chicken Coop Reno // 2021}
For a while now, I have been wanting to renovate our chicken coop and get chickens. I knew that it was probably a big undertaking because our coop was in bad shape, so I kept putting it off. After we had chickens the last go-'round, we had a miniature donkey back there. He wasn't so gentle around the coop and tore it up. Well, on Saturday, March 6th we had a friend over with his tractor to till up the garden and do a few other things around ours & Nate's parent's properties. We were out working around the coop and I mentioned to Nate's mom that I wanted to renovate the coop & get chickens. She was excited and gave me just the amount of encouragement I needed to get started. I told Nate I was ready and that's all it took...
