{Board and Brush Christmas Party // 2021}

 Every year my coworkers and I gather for a Christmas celebration. There are only three of us here in the DFW area and the rest of the company resides in the Seattle, WA area. We usually meet for supper and then go to some kind of hands-on event. We have done cooking classes, painting with a twist, and for the last few years, we have done Board and Brush. Board and Brush is a DIY woodworking studio. It's such a fun time and then you get to bring home an awesome piece for your home. The first year I made a huge nativity sign, the second year I made a wood Christmas box (that I fill with twinkle lights, ornaments, and pine cones), and this year I made...

{DIY round wood sign for the front porch}

 You may have noticed the "hello" sign in my post from yesterday about our fall porch. I have found a passion for making these round wood signs lately and had an idea for our front porch!

{Skull and Jenga Pumpkins DIY}

 I used to think Pinterest was dangerous (making me want to do all the things) but now Tik Tok has taken the cake! There are so many awesome crafts/diys on there! And, I love that there are so many Dollar Tree diys/crafts/hacks on there. Fun and inexpensive crafts are my jam!

{Fall craftin' in August}

 I decided to get a little jump on some fall crafting this year! Usually, by the time fall rolls around, I am so ready for Christmas. So, fall craftin' in August it is.

{QUARANTINE HOME PROJECT #8 // Wreath Refresh}

I like to switch up my wreaths with the season (or when they start looking ratchet! ha). It was well past time to update this one. I wanted it to be more spring/summery. I think I nailed just that!

{QUARANTINE HOME PROJECT #7 // DIY ROUND WOOD "GATHER" SIGN}

You know I love me a good DIY! I started seeing these DIY round wood signs popping up on Pinterest and Facebook and knew I had to make one. And then after we finished our picnic table we had this big empty wall that needed something to fill the space. And then it hit me - a round wood sign. And I knew just what I wanted it to say.

{FIVE ON FRIDAY // DIY SHELVING & STORAGE, MASON'S WELL CHECK, HOME}

It's been forever since I have written a Five on Friday post! Since I'm no longer writing the "Our Quarantined Life" posts, I thought this would be a good way to dump out some of the week's randomness. So, here goes...

{Halloween Crafts on the porch}

One of my favorite things to do with Mason in the fall is to craft on the porch after school! The weather isn't too terribly hot and we just have the best time together. Anytime I am at Target and scrolling the dollar spot area I stock up on seasonal crafts for just this reason! It's a simple little task that gets us off our phones or video games for a bit and allows us to spend some quality time together outside. Sure, we could do this inside...but there is just something about being outside in the fall.

{DIY // porch pumpkin revamp}

If you have been around my blog for a minute then you know that crafting is my jam! I try to work on at least one project a weekend. I enjoy it and find it therapeutic too. And, what good is all those Pinterest pins if you never put them to use? Right? Last weekend was kind of a weird weekend with me being ill and all. The only craft I had done was making some onesies for my niece that is due in December {and I totally forgot to take pictures}. So Sunday evening I was itching to make something, but I didn't really have anything planned. One trip to my porch changed that! I saw my porch pumpkin I made several years ago and it was in dire need of a revamp...

{Three Black Cats // DIY}

DIY'ing and crafting are my jam! A weekend is just not complete for me if it didn't involve crafting of some kind. I am obsessed and find it quite therapeutic. I can't remember where I first saw this idea, Pinterest probably, but I have been wanting to make these for the longest time. I knew that we probably had a piece of wood in the shop I could use and I had everything else in my craft closet to make these three black cats for my porch! So, a couple of weekends ago I did just that.

{Weekend Wrap-up // College football, Projects, Grandparent's Day}

Happy Monday!! We had such a good weekend mixed with just the perfect balance of going and doing and staying at home. Friday evening we had supper with one of my best friends since the 2nd grade and it was so good for my soul. I ran a few errands on Saturday morning and then we stayed home the rest of the day tackling cleaning and home projects. It felt good to get crafty for a bit. Sunday was Grandparent's Day so we spent the first half of the day with family and the second half at home. Monday came all too fast, but we are ready for a new week. Here's a look at our weekend wrap-up.

{Our DIY Leprechaun Trap}

DIY Leprechaun Trap - Hall Around Texas

Yesterday I was reading my sweet friend Whitney's Spring Fun post and saw that she had put on her list "make a Leprechaun trap". I was intrigued! So I asked her a bit about it and by her recommendation started searching Pinterest. I searched Leprechaun Trap and so many options came up! I let Mason choose which one he liked best since I wanted his help with the project. He excitedly chose this one.

We started gathering up all of the materials we had on hand that we could use. Luckily we had a box left over from a recent fundraiser because none of our collected shoe boxes would have worked. I found some St Patty's Day images and combined them all onto one 8x10 in PicMonkey and then printed them.

Materials:
A box
Construction paper or card stock
Popsicle Sticks
Markers
Hot Glue Gun/Glue sticks
Things to decorate your box
Straws
Scissors
Paper Towel roll

The first thing we did was cover our box with green construction paper. I did the hot gluing of the paper while Mason started coloring the popsicle sticks for our ladder. Then we added our Free Slide and Rainbow signs. I glued the little signs to colored straws and then glued the straws to our box. We wrapped our paper towel roll with yellow paper. Mason said it was kind of like gold and Leprechauns like gold so we went with it.

Then after all of that good coloring work Mason needed to take a break for some yogurt eating and some brain exercising....

He melts me and cracks me up all at the same time! I just adore this child.

Anyhow, we got back to work and made the ladder to our Leprechaun Trap with popsicle sticks. We embellished the top with some of Mason's gold mardi-gras style necklaces to draw in the leprechaun. Mason was so proud of our creation and has checked his trap no less than 95 times in the last hour.

{DIY Burlap Wreath}

Sometime last year I googled "How to make a burlap wreath"...and I've been obsessed/addicted since. I used this video to help get me started. Only two minutes long and very helpful. I have loved making these and changing them up for the seasons. Up until today I have had a Christmas/Winter wreath still on my door. It was time to change it up. I didn't really want to do a Valentine's wreath, so I just went with colors that matched our porch & home. It's one that I can leave up longer and through those shorter 1-day holidays. I did make cute patriot wreath last year that I plan to put out at July 4th.

Materials:
wreath frame
burlap
floral wire
scissors
hot glue gun
ribbon, bow or embellishments

I bought all of the materials at Walmart.

I used a medium sized wreath frame {12 inch} and it took almost a whole roll of 30 ft tan burlap, plus about 25 foot of the turquoise burlap. I did pull a lot out of each slot on the frame because I wanted it to look full. So, if you don't want yours to look as full then you wouldn't need so much burlap.

How to:
Start by weaving some floral wire through the start of your burlap and attach it to the wire wreath frame {I found it easier to start at the top slot}.

Then you simply just pull burlap through each slot of the wreath. The video I linked above shows exactly how to do this. Pull more burlap through for fuller wreaths, less if you don't want it so big.

Once you pull through the three slots flip the frame over and twist the burlap a couple of times and then start pulling the burlap through the innermost slot on the frame. Work up through those three slots then flip, twist and start your next set. Repeat until your frame is full of burlap.

 I used two colors for mine. So, when I got to where I wanted to stop with the first color I cut off the excess burlap then used some floral wire to secure the end of it to the frame. Then I just repeated the steps above with the second color of burlap.

Once you are finished with the burlap it's time to embellish! The possibilities are truly endless. I used a metal letter H {for our last name} that I found at Round Top last year and I made a bow out of some burlap and lace ribbon. I attached both with floral wire. In the past, I used a hot glue gun, but when you go to remove it messes up the burlap big time. So, I avoid hot glue if I can. I did use the hot glue gun to make my bow, though, and that's why it's in the materials above.

So easy! I love making these and find them therapeutic in some way. Have you made a burlap wreath? I'd love to see it if so. Actually, if you've made anything out of burlap let me know. I am kind of obsessed.

{Make a Fall Wreath // Fall 2015 Bucketlist Update}

One of the items on my Fall bucketlist this year was to make a Fall themed wreath. I've dabbled in wreath making, and found that I truly love it. It's therapeutic or something. Anyhow, when I thought about making a fall wreath I suspected that I would use burlap {because I am burlap obsessed}, most likely in deeper colors like burnt orange and brown. But, then I went a different route with it. Mason and I went out to the fields one day and picked a bunch of cotton. There is just something about fresh cotton that screams fall to me. So, I used the cotton we picked to make a fall wreath. It's different, it's simple and I am in love with it.

Supplies:
foam wreath form
a roll of burlap (I used 2 different colors)
hot glue gun and glue sticks
freshly picked cotton (or fake cotton)

It was so easy to make, too. I just wrapped the wreath form with the burlap and hot-glued it down every once in a while. Then I took the cotton pieces I wanted to use and pulled the stems off of them. Then I just started hot-gluing them down until I was happy with the way it looked. Then I took the burlap and made a bow. That's it.
